    Music lessonsMusic clubs and activities

When you arrive at School in September you will be able to join Music clubs and ensembles.  Music club timetables will be displayed in form rooms and around School in week one and our clubs will start in week two.

The Music Department is at the far end of the first floor – just ask any teacher for directions. You can choose which clubs you would like to join and just come along in week two. If you have questions, please come to the Music Department to see our Music Teachers, Mr Doubleday or Mr Davies.

    Instrumental lessons

Many students learn to play instruments at King Edward VII School and many students come out of lessons every week for this. The instrumental teachers arrange the timetables; the lessons are in the practice rooms in the Music Department. Lesson times are displayed on the Music notice board on the Music corridor.  All lessons are on rotas so that you do not keep missing the same lessons every week. If you need help in understanding the rotas please ask one of the Music teachers.

There are two groups of instrumental teachers at School. Sheffield Music Hub employs one group of teachers and parents pay the Music Service directly. The other group of teachers work privately at School and parents pay that teacher directly.  All instrumental teachers are highly experienced and chosen for their high level of teaching skills. There is no difference in quality of lessons between private (P) teachers and those from the Sheffield Music Hub (SMH).

What do I do if I would like to learn an instrument or have singing lessons?

    Lower School

Choose which instrument you would like to learn:

Either: Email the teacher directly if he or she is a Private teacher (P) to see if he or she has a space for you in September at King Edward Vll School.

OR: If your child is already having lessons in Primary School with a Hub teacher and has completed the re-contract form then there needs to be no further action.

If you are starting lessons to learn a musical instrument for the first time, you will need to complete an enrolment form for Hub/Music Services.  Please complete an on-line form by going to www.sheffieldmusichub.org and follow the instructions.

Music instruments can be rented through the Music Hub for Hub teachers and (Hub accredited).

If you need further information or advice regarding the administration of lessons, Lower School students please contact Lower School Office.

    Upper School

Upper School students may also request lessons that they pay for. Application details are the same as above and forms are available from Upper School reception.

GCSE Music students are entitled to a weekly lesson of up to twenty minutes and A Level Music students are entitled to a weekly lesson of up to thirty minutes with our instrumental teachers in school.

Please make it clear to the Hub or our private instrumental teachers that you are studying Music at GCSE or A level at King Edward VII School if you are organising lessons for September.

For further advice on music issues e.g. which instrument to learn or continue with, please email mdoubleday@kes.sheffield.sch.uk or visit the Sheffield Music Hub website www.sheffieldmusichub.org.uk
