    Governors of King Edward VII School

    Linda Gooden: Headteacher

    Linda Gooden graduated with a B.A. Honours Degree in English followed by a Master of Education in Educational Management qualification. She has also completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship and the National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership.

    She has extensive leadership experience gained from working in a number of schools in different local authorities since she joined the teaching profession.

    At various times, she has been the Head of an English Department, a Deputy Headteacher in two different schools and an Associate Headteacher. She was appointed to the Headship at King Edward VII School in 2016.

     

     

    Peter Dickson: Chair of the Governing Board

    Peter works for the Local Authority’s People Directorate where he manages a service dealing with challenging school issues surrounding children, their parents and carers and works closely with head teachers and other governing bodies across the city. He is a very experienced governor, a Local Leader of Governance, and has of a breadth of experience of many governance issues. He is also Chair of Governors at a Sheffield Community Primary School. His particular areas of expertise are in child protection procedures, behaviour, inclusion, SEN, attendance and a wide range of difficult pupil issues. He is passionate about education and about developing the life chances and opportunities for all children and young people. Peter has a Doctorate in Education and away from work and school is keen to keep abreast of educational research and a wide range of educational issues.

    Michael Williams: Teacher Governor

    Michael Williams is Head of English. He has taught at King Edward’s for over 18 years, was a year leader for six years, then the ITT mentor for English for four years, and then the School Training Manager. He has held the post of Head of English for two years. He finds teaching at this School very rewarding due to its great diversity and levels of achievement. He greatly values our treasured history which is unique in the region and only adds, in his view, to the flavour of the school, as well as underpinning our excellence in Post-16 provision within the City. He believes that the School is a truly remarkable environment in which to work and learn, and hopes to represent the staff’s vision of this in fulfilling his role as Teacher Governor.

    Samantha Bailey: Governor

    Samantha is a graduate of the University of Sheffield having obtained an honours degree in Social Policy and Criminology, Samantha works at South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA). She has a background in Human Resources and has recently completed her MA in Human Resource Management.

    Emma Wilkinson: Governor

    Emma Wilkinson is a freelance journalist and author specialising in Health and Medicine. She is co-founder of Freelancing for Journalists, an organisation that supports those working for themselves. She is also an Associate Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and Vice-Chair of the Medical Journalists’ Association. Originally from Bradford, Emma studied Biomedical Science and then Journalism at the University of Sheffield. Emma has a son and daughter at the school and a younger child at Westways Primary School. She believes strongly in the value of a broad comprehensive education with equality of opportunity and access.

    Kate Williamson: Vice Chair of the Governing Board

    Kate is a parent of a student at the School. She is very glad that her daughter attends, as she has seen her become an independent and engaged learner who enjoys what she does, most of the time, at School. Kate herself has taught for 25 years in a range of different secondary schools in various localities including inner city. outer London and Sheffield. Currently, she is director of technology and computing at Tibshelf Community School where she is responsible for most of the Progress 8 Bucket 3 vocational focus subjects. She was a governor for eight years at a nursery and infant school where she was variously chair and a member of the finance, curriculum and safeguarding groups. She believes in comprehensive education and equal access for all students. Kate is a member of the working group on fundraising in School.

    Dr Malik Refaat

    Having gained a PhD in Psychology and taught undergraduate students in the school of Psychology, Malik moved to Sheffield where he taught at the University of Sheffield before joining the Open University as a member of Academic Staff. Malik manages teaching staff in Psychology as well as teaching himself. His academic duties include student support of a range of students from many different backgrounds. He was keen to join the governing board as so many of the values between the Open University and King Edward Vll School line up with his own.

    Rachael Galletly

    Rachael is the Northern Programme Manager for an educational charity, Action Tutoring. This charity provides high quality volunteer tutors to work with disadvantaged students and has been in partnership with King Edward VII School for eight years. She manages a team in Sheffield and the North East, supporting both primary and secondary pupils in Mathematics and English. Rachael cares deeply about narrowing the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their more affluent peers.

    Previous to her current role, Rachael was a teacher of English and Drama at King Edward VII School for 21 years and held the post of Second in English for 10 years. She holds a deep affection for the School, its staff and students and has always felt the School's values align completely with her own.

    Marcus Brown

    Chris Hood

    Chris arrived in Sheffield in 1988 to study social and political studies at The University of Sheffield. He then did a Master’s at Sheffield Hallam University. He has spent the last 30 plus years working in various public services; both statutory and non-statutory. Since 2013 he has been the CEO of South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association (SYEDA). On 1 May 2025 he took up the post of CEO at Sheffield Futures, a young person’s service. This has enabled him to combine his two passions - young people and mental health. Chris is the proud father of three daughters, with the youngest two following in the footsteps of the eldest who thrived during her time at King Edward VII School. Chris wishes to use his place on the board to advocate for the primacy of emotional wellbeing and good mental health for all students at King Edward VII School.

    Ahmed Mohamed: Parent Governor

    Ahmed is the CEO and co-founder of Infinite Skills CIC, a Sheffield-based social enterprise dedicated to education, skills development, and community empowerment. With a diverse academic background including a Master’s in Education (TESOL) and an MSc in International Business Management, he is currently pursuing a PhD focused on social mobility and education. Ahmed has extensive experience working across education, social impact and community regeneration both in the UK and internationally. As a Governor, he brings a deep understanding of the barriers facing disadvantaged communities and is passionate about widening participation, equity in education and fostering partnerships that improve life chances for young people.

    Emma Titterington-Giles

    Emma has worked in the public sector for over 15 years and is currently a senior policy advisor at the Department of Education working in early years. She has a Master’s Degree in Corporate Governance from the University of Bournemouth and an undergraduate Degree in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Manchester. She has three children, one of which attended King Edward VII School where she was encouraged by her teachers (and staff, particularly at the library!) to pursue her passion and interests, which she is now studying at university. Emma was really attracted to the School because of its ethos of inclusion, its welcoming environment and the commitment of people working here.
