Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

We have a long history of offering the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to students. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary scheme that students are given the opportunity to take part in. It comprises three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold – with four sections for Bronze and Silver and five for Gold – volunteering, physical, skill, expedition and residential (Gold only).

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award aims to encourage personal development through a balanced, challenging and progressive personalised programme that students themselves shape.

We offer the Bronze Award to all of our Year 9 students in November of Year 9, and each year around 100 students take up the opportunity. We don’t currently offer the Silver Award, however are happy to support teams working on their Silver Award if they want to do this. We offer the Gold Award to all our Year 12 students and we are able to support up to 70 students in completing their Gold expedition each year.

As a School we aim to ensure that all students have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, should they wish to do so, the only limit being due to the number of students we can realistically manage to train and support through the expedition section. We are fortunate to have a number of staff with outdoor qualifications and many staff with extensive experience of both the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the outdoors, who are willing to support the running of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. We also have a well-stocked kit store and a DofE Access Fund.
