  • Headteacher's letter

    Dear Parent/Carer

    Transition information

I am writing to welcome both you and your child to King Edward VII School.

The purpose of this letter is to outline what happens next and to give you the names of some key contacts at King Edward VII School.

    Primary school visits

Visits to primary schools by key staff from King Edward VII School are well under way.  We meet with the Year 6 teachers and children.  We gather as much information as we can in order to make the transition to secondary school as straightforward as possible.  We also aim to dispel any worries and answer specific questions that Year 6 children may have.

    Information Evening – Tuesday 9 June 2026

This is an opportunity for you and your child to meet staff, look round the School and find out important information. The evening will start from 6.00pm with a formal welcome in the main hall at 6.15pm.

Forms and information requests enclosed in this pack can be returned to King Edward VII School on this evening or direct to the School prior to this evening.

    Induction day – Thursday 25 June 2026

Year 6 children will come to King Edward VII Lower School to experience a full working day. They will start at 8.50am and finish at 3.00pm.  The children will have a tour of the School and will follow a timetable for the day. This will allow them to become familiar with our routines and give them a sense of a typical day at King Edward VII School.

There will be staff on duty to meet and greet parents, carers and children on the induction day.  We would ask parents and carers to leave once they have dropped off their children and not to drop off your child by bringing a vehicle down the main drive from Darwin Lane.

The meeting place for Year 6 children will be the main assembly hall.  Children are to make their own way home on this day, so please discuss travel arrangements with your child in advance to ensure they can get home safely.

Your child will be given a guidance booklet to help them through the day.  We operate a cashless system in our dining room using ParentPay but special arrangements will apply for the induction day. At lunchtime King Edward VII School will provide a meal for your child, free of charge, up to the value of £3.00.  We would like your child to experience a normal lunch time service when they visit and they will be able to choose items from the menu for the day.  Please see the menu by clicking here.  This value (£3.00) will be sufficient for your child to have a hot meal and pudding or to choose alternative items. The meal does not include a drink so please ensure that your child brings a drink in a suitable, non-glass container.

If your child has any food allergies, please advise us on the day. Alternatively, if your child would prefer to bring in their own packed lunch they can do so.

    Summer School

We are running a Summer School in the week commencing Monday 27 July to Thursday 30 July 2026 from 10.00am until 3.00pm. More information is enclosed in the pack.

    Form groups

We take advice from Year 6 teachers and consider a range of factors in order to establish balanced form groups.  The dynamics within a classroom must be conducive to excellent learning and the Key Stage 3 Leader and Pastoral Manager are key people in ensuring that the make-up of each form is correct.

Beginning of term, Wednesday 2 September at 8.40am

We always start the first day with an assembly for all Year 7s. They will spend the morning completing induction activities with their teachers and will receive their timetables before beginning formal lessons in the afternoon.
