King Edward VII is seeking to appoint a Catering Assistant to join our dedicated catering team, helping to provide a high-quality, nutritious, and welcoming food service for the users of our School.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in the day-to-day running of our school food outlets. This post is based at the Lower School site on Darwin Lane.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Assisting in the preparation, cooking, and serving of a variety of food and drink.
  • Serving students at break and lunch times
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, including daily washing up and working as part of a team to clean all kitchen and service areas.
  • Assisting with periodic deep cleaning of food preparation areas.
  • Operating an electronic till system and to undertake cash handling as and when required
  • Supervision of students in the dining hall

The Successful Candidate will be able to: 

  • Communicate effectively with other employees, students, and the wider school community.
  • Be reliable, punctual, and presentable.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and use their own initiative when required.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of Health and Safety and Food Hygiene policies.
  • Understand the needs of the School in prioritising workload during busy service times.
  • Show a willingness to undertake any relevant training provided.

The successful candidate will be required to complete Disclosure and Barring Service declarations in line with Section 115 of the Police Act 1997. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS certificate. As the post will involve regulated activity with children, it is a criminal offence to apply for this post if you are included on the children’s barred list held by the DBS.

Amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are “protected”. These are not subject to the disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure and Barring Service before your appointment in confirmed. We will perform online searches as part of due diligence for all shortlisted candidates.
