Language choices

Students in classAt King Edward VII School we are proud to be able to offer our students a choice in the foreign language they wish to study when they join us in Year 7.

The languages of choice are: French, German or Spanish.

Please may we ask you to discuss this with your child and come to a decision as to which language you would prefer them to study when they join us in September, bearing in mind the following:

  • Students will continue studying the language they are learning in Year 7 throughout Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) and, in most cases, to GCSE
  • Whilst we will do our utmost to meet all requests, it may not be possible in some cases to allocate students to their first choice if one of the languages is oversubscribed. If this is the case we will grant the second choice
  • At the start of Year 8 a second foreign language will be offered to those students who have shown ability and application in their studies in Year 7

To help us plan for the forthcoming academic year, may we ask you to fill in the reply slip below and return to school on the Information Evening, Tuesday 9 June or send it to school by Friday 12 June 2026 at the latest. If we do not receive a reply, students will be automatically allocated to a class.

For any queries on this matter please email Mrs Cuming, Key Stage 3 Leader for Modern Foreign Languages, ccuming@kes.sheffield.sch.uk
