GCSE assessments and key dates

Please note that these dates are provisional. Parents should regularly check the school calendar and weekly bulletin or contact departments to confirm details if required.

NEA means ‘non-examined assessment’ - similar to ‘coursework’ - contributes towards final grade but marked by teaching staff and moderated by exam boards

ART & DESIGN

  • Coursework unit 60% completes in December 2026
  • Externally Set Assignment 40% starts in January 2027
  • Exam hours for practical completion of ESA in April 2027
  • Trial exams during trial exam period

COMPUTER SCIENCE and iMEDIA

  • Assessments at the end of each unit and assessments during the trial exam period. Recall tasks will be administered as required for Computer Science.
  • iMedia – NEAs to complete, plus one exam. NEAs released from the exam board in the June of Year 10, to be completed in a timed environment. (Exam will be sat in Summer of Year 11)

BUSINESS and ECONOMICS

  • Assessments at the end of each unit and during the trial exam period

DRAMA

Year 11

  • Component Two: Devising Drama NEA - 40% of final grade
  • 20 October 2026 or 21 October 2026: Dress and Tech Rehearsals - all day
  • 23 October 2026 Component Two Final Performance and Assessment – all day (may run after school hours)
  • Devising Log (Written Coursework) Deadline: TBC
  • Component Three: Texts in Practice NEA – 20% of final grade
  • Week beginning 24 March 2027: Component Three Texts in Practice Dress Rehearsals and Final Exam x2 days in that week to be confirmed by AQA in February 2027
  • Component One: Understanding Drama written exam - 40% final grade
  • Written GCSE Exam, 1 hour 45 mins: 14 May 2027

GEOGRAPHY

  • Assessments will take place in class at the end of each topic.
  • Students also need to complete two sets of compulsory fieldwork - one in a physical geography setting and one in a human geography setting. Letters will be sent home with further details of when these will take place

  • Component 2: Health and Social Care services and value to be completed by May 2027 (NEA each worth 30% of the final grade)

Year 11

  • Component 3: Health and Wellbeing, 2-hour external exam worth 40% of the final grade. The exam is a written synoptic and incorporates content from component 1 and 2. The exam is in May 27 (Date TBC)
