Key Stage 4 options

Letter from the Headteacher
Dear Student,
You have reached a very exciting and important stage in your educational career when you need to make informed choices about the courses you would like to study at Key Stage 4.
The decisions that you make are exceptionally important because they will influence your studies in Year 10, Year 11 and at Post 16 level. You should spend time thinking about what you would like to do in the future, after Year 11.
The online Key Stage 4 options information has been produced to provide you with as much information as possible about Key Stage 4, the courses that are compulsory and the courses that are optional. The mixture of compulsory and optional courses will ensure that you experience a broad and balanced curriculum to prepare you well for the future.
At the end of Year 11, all students in England do one of the following until they are 18 years old:
- Stay in full time education
- Start an apprenticeship or traineeship
- Spend twenty hours or more each week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training
The Post 16 curriculum has been reviewed and changed so more of our students can stay on into our Sixth Form because of the large number of courses on offer. We would like you to stay at King Edward VII School to complete your Post 16 education in our Sixth Form to ensure you can achieve great success at the end of Year 13.
This is exactly what universities, organisations and employers want in order to employ successful young people in the future.
Please read all the online information carefully and ask for more information if you are unclear about anything. It is essential that you discuss your ideas and choices with your parents, carers, Year 9 pastoral staff and subject teachers.
When considering your options try to answer the following questions:
1. Which subjects am I really good at?
2. Which subjects do I really enjoy and why?
3. Which subjects are important for my Post 16 studies and my future career?
Additional information will be provided online via presentations and question and answer sessions.
We hope you enjoy this important process.
Yours sincerely

Ms Gooden
Headteacher
