Attendance

Pastoral support lower The School maintains a rigorous stance on the importance of high attendance levels and any absence is monitored closely, electronic registration takes place for every lesson throughout the day.

There is a very strong connection between a good attendance record and success at School. Key Stage Leaders work closely with parents, carers and students. It is the parents/carers legal responsibility to ensure their child attends School.

Parents can help by:

  • Ensuring their child attends School, on time, each day
  • Providing detailed information to explain absences and communicating with School this information
  • Avoid arranging family holidays or appointments during term time
  • Actively encouraging their son or daughter to achieve an excellent attendance record
  • Contacting the School if there are any concerns regarding attendance for their child
  • Providing evidence of medical appointments
  • Promoting the correlation between excellent attendance, achievement and academic success

Leave of absence during term time is only granted in exceptional circumstances. All leave of absence requests must be submitted to the School. None essential appointments should be made out of School hours.

Fines may be issued by the Local Authority for students who are absent frequently or who take unauthorised leave. The School works closely with the Local Authority’s Attendance and Inclusion team to place additional monitoring and support for families.

What to do if my child is absent from School?

If your child is unable to attend School due to illness, parents or carers should call the absence line by 9.00am and select option 1 with the reason for your child's absence. The attendance officer will make contact with the parent/carer to alert them of their child's absence from School if contact hasn't been made. If no reason has been provided by the parent/carer, the Pastoral Manager will call home asking for a reason why. The absence will be unauthorised until a reason has been provided.
